These words at least show late insight…
Hertha goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck (28) was put on trial this Thursday. He was accused of attacking Alois S. (22) on the sidelines of the training camp in Zell am See in July.
During the beating process, the professional gets away with a black eye. The procedure ends with diversion. Gersbeck has to pay 40,000 euros to the Austrian state treasury, but is neither convicted nor acquitted.
According to the public prosecutor’s office, the man suffered a fracture of the eye socket, a fracture of the maxillary sinus wall and an eyelid hematoma.
In court, Gersbeck addressed the injured party directly with apologetic words.
The goalkeeper’s lawyer had previously announced that Gersbeck took full responsibility, regretted the incident and was ready for a handshake with the victim.
Gersbeck: “I deeply regret the incident. And I would like to personally apologize to the victim.”
After the statement, Alois S. came over and accepted the handshake. Gersbeck: “I’m truly sorry. And I hope they don’t have any subsequent damage.”
