After two years of the pandemic, the “State Opera for Everyone” finally took place again on Saturday evening. The tradition, which has been making the hearts of Berlin opera lovers beat since 2007, could finally be continued.
Some used the opportunity of “State Opera for All” for the first time to be there on Bebelplatz. Others have been there every year since it started 15 years ago. “As soon as the date is announced, we’ll put it on our calendars and look forward to the great atmosphere and time together,” said Ulrike Steiner (55), one of the organizers of the “Friends of the State Opera” support group. They were not deterred by the heat and the scorching sun.
This time on the program: Puccini’s “Turandot”, staged by Philipp Stölzl, with Elena Pankratova, Aida Garifullina, Siegfried Jerusalem and René Pape. And on the podium: star conductor Zubin Mehta.
For student Jamie (19), this experience couldn’t start soon enough. “I’ve been here since 3 p.m. As an opera fan, I think the idea of broadcasting it to the outside is great. A great event to inaugurate the summer and savor the grandiose music of the State Opera.”
Berlin is definitely ready for a warm summer with open airs and time together!
