Finally: after a quarter-century drought, HCAW takes the national championship again

HCAW is the new national champion in baseball. The Bussum-squad defeated Neptunus 2-0. With the three previous victories, the baseball players only needed one more win in the Holland Series. With that, HCAW won the league title for the first time in 24 years.

At home in the Rob Hoffmanvallei, HCAW started well and took the lead in the second inning. Batter Max Draaijer hit the ball into the backfield, enabling Phildrick Llewellyn to easily cross the plate 1-0.

It remained very exciting after that, as neither team was able to take any points. That was partly due to experienced pitcher Lars Huijer and Kevin Kelly with the opponent. It took until the last inning, before the lead was doubled. Jeandro Tromp came over after a good hit by Llewellyn: 2-0. Huijer then simply finished the job. Then the champagne could be uncorked.

In the end, HCAW became Dutch champion for the third time in history, after previous titles in 1996 and 1998. The Bussum-squad played in the Holland Series for the first time since 2005. For the first time since 2012, the title did not belong to Neptunus or Amsterdam Pirates, which was the reigning champion.
