The German champions Borussia Düsseldorf won the German table tennis cup at the Final Four in Neu-Ulm and thus the 77th title in the club’s history.

Timo Boll puts the lid on it

Record European champion Boll scored the decisive third point for the Rhinelanders against the Slovenian Darko Jorgic. The Swede Källberg had previously defeated the German national player Patrick Franziska. Individual European champion Dang Qiu took the lead 1-0 against the Japanese Yuto Muramatsu.

“It takes some pressure off our shoulders.”

“We are incredibly proud that we have done it again,” said 42-year-old Boll after his club’s 28th cup victory at “Dyn”. “Every title is incredibly important. Because at Borussia we are asked to win titles. That takes some of the pressure off our shoulders for the rest of the season.”

In the cup final, Düsseldorf took revenge for the defeat against Saarbrücken in the Bundesliga top game on December 27th. Last season, the prestigious duel also took place in the finals of the Champions League and the Bundesliga playoffs.

Ochsenhausen and Grünwettersbach miss the final

The Düsseldorf team had previously beaten their Bundesliga rivals ASV Grünwettersbach 3-1 in the semi-finals at midday. The Saarbrücken team beat the four-time cup winners TTF Ochsenhausen 3-2. Defending champion TTC Neu-Ulm was not there in their own hall. The club had its team withdrew from the Bundesliga before this season.
