The film is made by director Roel Reiné, who plays a lot in Hollywood and the cinema hit in the Netherlands Michael de Ruyter made. Under fire largely based on the book Danger Close that Kroon has written about his time in Afghanistan. It has not yet been announced who will play the lead role.
Marco Kroon is the first soldier since 1955 to be awarded the Military William Order, the highest military award in the Netherlands. He was awarded this in 2009 for his courageous actions and his leadership in firefights in Afghanistan.
After his military service, however, Kroon was discredited several times. In 2011, he was charged with drug and arms trafficking. The court then only convicted him for illegal possession of weapons. Post-traumatic stress from his time in Afghanistan also affected him.
