Film with Penélope Cruz and Brad Pitt opens Chanel show in Paris

A short film starring Brad Pitt and Penélope Cruz opened the fashion label Chanel’s show at Paris Fashion Week. In the short film inspired by Claude Lelouch’s classic 1966 film “A Man and a Woman,” actors Pitt and Cruz flirt heavily with each other.

The backdrop for the film and the fashion show was a place that has always been associated with Gabrielle Chanel – known as Coco Chanel (1883-1971): Deauville. The famous seaside promenade of the coastal town in Normandy was projected onto a huge screen in front of which the models presented the collection.

Guests at the show on Tuesday morning included Charlotte Casiraghi, daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco, and the French singer and actress Vanessa Paradis. Penélope Cruz was also there – she came to the show in a short leather costume.

Creative director Virginie Viard’s new fall/winter collection was both casual and glamorous. Coats with broad shoulders, wide culotte trousers and jackets casually tied at the waist were reminiscent of the wardrobe inspired by masculine elements that Coco Chanel herself once liked to wear. Hats with wide, rolled brims gave the looks an extravagant touch and were intended to allude to the Hollywood glitz of Deauville, where the American Film Festival gathers many stars every year.
