Film legend Alain Delon asks for euthanasia

Alain Delon (86) was considered a heartbreaker in the 1960s. He was with Romy Schneider († 43) for four years when he cheated on her with his future wife Nathalie. He thoroughly enjoyed his life, but now his health is giving him problems. That’s why the film star wants to die – self-determined.

The French actor said in an interview back in 2021: “A beautiful death is the most logical and natural measure. At a certain age and point in time, we have the right to leave this world peacefully without the assistance of a hospital or life support equipment.”

Delon asked his son Anthony Delon (57), like his father an actor, for help. Anthony has now confirmed his father’s wish to die, telling the TV station “RTL Channel”: “Yes, it’s true. He asked me.”

According to El Confidencial, Alain has entrusted his eldest son, Anthony, with making arrangements to get euthanasia in Switzerland, where he is retiring and where euthanasia is legal.

In a public statement, Alain Delon himself said: “I would like to thank everyone who has accompanied me over the years and given me great support. I hope that future actors can find in me a role model not only at work, but in everyday life, between victories and defeats. Thanks. Yours, Alain Delon.”

Why does he want to die?

In 2019 he had a double stroke, since then his mobility has been restricted. In addition, he should not have gotten over the death of his wife Nathalie Delon († 79).

She died of pancreatic cancer in January 2021. Nathalie expressed her own death wish to her husband, but was unable to claim the aid due to the laws in France. Because Alain resides in Switzerland, he is allowed to use euthanasia there.

The legendary French film star Delon became known with films such as “Only the sun was a witness” and “Rocco and his brothers”.

In Germany, active euthanasia is a punishable offense. However, the termination of life-sustaining measures is permitted if this corresponds to the will of the patient, as is indirect euthanasia. This includes, for example, the administration of pain-relieving medication, with the possible shortening of life caused by this being accepted as an unwanted side effect.
