Nicole Schott saved the honor of the German figure skaters a bit at the Olympic Games in Beijing on Sunday (06.02.2022). The German champion from Essen delivered a convincing performance to the sounds of “Adios Nonino” by Astor Piazzolla, came in sixth place with 62.66 points and was also able to look forward to a successful dress rehearsal for the individual.
Schott: “Best short program I’ve ever run”
“It was the best short program I’ve ever run,” said Schott. “I’ve shown that I can compete at a higher level, even though I’m a bit older.” The individual medal fight begins on February 15. Germany did not qualify for the freestyle final in the team competition on Monday (February 7th, 2022) for the five best teams. In the overall standings, it was only enough for ninth and penultimate place.
15-year-old Russian Valiewa outstanding
Kamila Valiewa ran in a league of her own. The Russian outclassed the competition with an outstanding short program, got 90.18 points and thus pushed the Russian team past the USA to the top of the overall ranking.
Valiewa, who was only 15 years old, lived up to her reputation as a figure skating prodigy with a short program that was as powerful as she was graceful. She is without a doubt a favorite for singles gold in this form.
