Fifty underage asylum seekers arrived at emergency shelter at Soestdijk Palace | NOW

Fifty underage asylum seekers moved into the former military police barracks on the estate of Soestdijk Palace on Wednesday. Unaccompanied Minor Refugees (AMVs) are allowed to stay on the estate for one year.

Until recently, the children, who range in age from 14 to 17, stayed in emergency shelter in Van der Valk Leusden. The supervisors of the children will accompany them to the new reception location. They are also available 24 hours a day.

The unaccompanied minors are housed in the accommodation buildings on the site. They also use the main building for activities.

On Wednesday 29 June, the current temporary residents of the Marechaussee barracks were informed during a meeting, after which interested parties from Baarn and Soest were also informed. A second meeting was held on 12 July. That was a condition of the Municipal Executive of Baarn to agree to the plan.
