“Fifty Shades of Grey”: Jamie Dornan was ashamed of the film series

The bad reviews of the erotic films haunt him to this day.

After the first part of “Fifty Shades of Gray” was released in cinemas in 2015, Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan became a global star overnight. And although he had previously made a good impression as an actor in the crime series “The Fall – Death in Belfast”, the erotic film based on the novel by EL James destroyed the positive criticism and the previous high. Dornan has now reported in an interview that he was ashamed of his part in the work.

The shame that doesn’t stop

In an interview with “BBC 4”, Dornan explains that he was “downright ridiculed” for his role as Christian Grey, which did not go unnoticed. But “Fifty Shades of Gray” was so successful that it was followed by sequels to the best-selling film adaptations. He explains that despite the negative opinions, he signed up for the continuation – “knowing full well that there will be much more shame to come.”

To this day, says Dornan, there are hardly any articles about him that are not related to the erotic trilogy. “I’ve gotten very good reviews for my recent work, and there aren’t many of them that don’t mention ‘Fifty Shades’,” he says. When he once received a lot of bad feedback on “Fifty Shades of Grey,” he even went into hiding out of embarrassment to director Sam Taylor-Johnson.

But that’s not all: After the films were released, there were repeated rumors that he was having an affair with his film partner Dakota Johnson, which would have put a lot of strain on his marriage to the actress and singer Amelia Warner.
