Fifty football fans arrested, knife and batons seized

The police arrested about fifty football fans in Best on Saturday evening, who would have been looking for a mutual confrontation. During the check, a car deliberately tried to run into officers. Several bats, a knife and other items were also seized. It would be supporters of FC Utrecht and PSV. On Sunday, PSV – FC Utrecht will be played for the Eredivisie.

The police had driven dozens of cars to a parking lot on the Oude Rijksweg in Best, because football supporters had wanted to fight each other on this spot. Information about this had been received by the police. A Mobile Unit van was also deployed to nip problems in the bud.

A police spokesperson could not confirm that these were supporters of FC Utrecht and PSV, as a football support platform suggested earlier in the evening. According to her, not everyone could or wanted to identify themselves. Also, not everyone wore a shirt from their favorite club.

In the end it was decided to arrest the entire group that had wanted to fight each other and to take them by bus to a police station for questioning and identification.

It regularly happens that football fans want to fight with each other ‘by appointment’. Supporters of clubs in Brabant, among others, have built up a dubious reputation in this area in recent years, both at home and abroad.
