Fifteen years without Cannavò, the memory of his lesson

From Cainero’s gold in Beijing followed under the flood to the last words of his column dedicated to Pippo Inzaghi: they were twins of passion. United by desire, enthusiasm, a heart on fire for their profession

The last word written by Candido Cannavò in the Gazzetta dello Sport was “cradle”, following a praise of Pippo Inzaghi, who, in the journalist-writer’s imagination, was already scoring goals in the cradle. Precisely. It was the morning of Thursday 19 February 2009. His last “Let me understand”. Then Candido went down to the canteen, where he was struck by the illness that took him to the Famedio, next to Peppino Meazza. The word “cradle”, that is, the beginning, a few hours from the end, as if to close the circle, the alpha and omega on the pink page, the color of a life. The illness at the table, not at the desk, was also “consistent”, because the Gazzetta was much more than a workplace for him, it was a second family, in the 19 years of his direction (1983-2002) and beyond. Thursday marked 15 years since he said goodbye.
