Two 26-year-old Emmen residents have been sentenced to fifteen months in prison for trading 61 kilograms of hard drugs destined for the German market. The men were caught on October 28, 2018, in a house in the Bargeres district, packing 53 kilos of speed and eight kilos of ecstasy. Both men deny, they happened to be there, both said to the judge.
The case came to light through an investigation in the east of the Netherlands through chat conversations. The ‘packing house’ at the Spehornerbrink in Emmen also came up in those conversations.
A 31-year-old Emmener arranged a shipment of more than sixty kilograms of hard drugs for that house, where it would be packed. The officers observed Emmenaar and saw the man, along with another man, bring four full bags.
CD covers, sealing machines and German stamps
The police found 26-year-old residents of Emmen and the then 21-year-old resident in the house between the kilos of hard drugs and items in which they were packed, such as empty CD covers, sealing machines and German stamps. At the end of 2019, the resident was sentenced to 30 months in prison. The 31-year-old delivery man was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Overijssel court. Both have since appealed.
The public prosecutor does not believe in the innocence of the 26-year-old packers. On their phones were pictures of mailing labels and postal shipments to Germany. One of the suspects stated that those photos are part of the car industry in which he works. The other didn’t know how the photos got on his phone.
Absurd revenue models
According to the public prosecutor, the trade and export of hard drugs is a major social problem due to the absurd business models. “These suspects contributed to this,” the prosecutor said. In his sentencing demand, he explicitly took the age of the case into account. The priority was to try the main suspects. But after that, today’s business was still too long on the shelf.
The verdict in this case is in two weeks.
