After the Brazilian association president Ednaldo Rodrigues was deposed by a civil court, the world football association FIFA sent the national umbrella organization CBF a Christmas card with clear messages.
In the letter dated December 24th, the association is prohibited from further interference in the management structure and, in the event of violations, clearly threatens to immediately suspend the Selecao and domestic clubs from all competitions.
A commission with FIFA delegates and representatives of the continental association Conmebol wants to get an on-site picture of the leadership crisis that triggered Rodrigues’ dismissal due to alleged irregularities in his election in March 2022 in the second week of January. The world association sees the ruling of a court in Rio de Janeiro as interference by state bodies in the affairs of its member associations, which is not permitted by its own statutes.
FIFA therefore demonstratively addressed the letter to CBF General Secretary Alcino Reis, who was also deposed on December 7th, and not to Jose Perdiz, who was appointed by the court as an interim solution. At the tribunal’s behest, the interim president had prepared the call for new elections in the last few days. However, FIFA made it clear in its letter that nothing in this direction should be done until the Commission’s visit.
