Fifa: Prince Ali demands investigation

Six weeks before the election of the new Fifa chief, presidential candidate Prince Ali bin Al Hussein complained about a possibly irregular deal between the African and Asian football federations and called for an investigation. The Jordanian candidate fears “there was an attempt to break the rules of Fifa’s presidential election,” he said in a statement. Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa (Bahrain), favorite to succeed Joseph S. Blatter, had previously engineered a broad-based cooperation with the African CAF in his capacity as President of the Asian AFC. “The timing makes this seem like an obvious attempt to organize a bloc vote,” Ali said. Blatter’s successor will be elected on February 26, 2016.
