Do football fans have to look at a black screen?

In less than four months, the women’s soccer World Cup will start. Can our girls repeat last year’s European Championship finals? The big problem for all fans: There is no German channel for the World Cup.

Fifa does not find a German broadcaster for the women’s World Cup

The deadline for the call for applications expired six weeks ago. And Fifa still can’t find a TV station for the World Cup.

There are also no deals in other larger markets such as Spain, England and Italy.

The reason: Fifa is said to be out to take more money than was previously offered.

One thing is clear: So far, the big tournaments have been broadcast on ARD and ZDF. The reporting on the women’s European Championship last year was particularly successful. Almost 18 million TV viewers watched the final between Germany and England on TV – the most-watched program of the entire year.

The World Cup in Australia and New Zealand starts on July 20th. Our DFB women have to play against Morocco, Colombia and South Korea in the preliminary round.
