Fans of the football simulation FIFA will soon have to get used to the name EA Sports FC. However, senior officials from the developer of FIFA 22 recently emphasized that there are also advantages to this.
EA CEO Anrew Wilson said in an interview with the online portal IGN on Wednesday that fans are said to be benefiting from the forthcoming changes: “The fans want us to go beyond what we’ve known before and continue to expand the digital football experience.
And they want us to move there really quickly.” Especially for big leagues like the Premier League or the Bundesliga, new features should be added to go beyond the established content.
EA’s Vice President David Jackson previously explained to the BBC why this is only now possible: “Under the licensing agreements we had with FIFA ten years ago, there were some restrictions that didn’t allow us to offer these experiences to players to build in.”
Modified pitches and new rules?
The high-ranking employee of the developer of FIFA 22 made it clear that new modes could appear in the successor to FIFA in the future, which go beyond classic football content. Apparently there were restrictions in this regard as part of the FIFA naming license.
Jackson also added that the worlds of football and the entertainment industry are changing. These circumstances should apparently also be felt in EA Sports FC.
In this regard, there is speculation, for example, about modified soccer fields and the implementation of new (soccer) rules. According to the EA officials, it is also important for the fans to be able to create more content themselves.
Nevertheless, the high license costs were ultimately responsible for the end of the name. According to media reports, the world football association FIFA demanded almost one billion US dollars for the use of the naming rights.
