Fielmann takes over glasses retailer SVS Vision and Befitting

The Hamburg optics group Fielmann AG is targeting the USA. On Wednesday, the company announced the acquisition of two local eyewear retailers. These are the chain store SVS Vision and the Canadian e-commerce specialist Eyevious Style Inc., which operates the online platform Befitting in North America. In addition, the group introduced the former Luxottica manager Lukas Rücker as the new CEO of the subsidiary Fielmann USA Inc.

According to Fielmann, the now agreed acquisition of all shares in SVS Vision is to be completed “subject to the usual conditions” by the end of August. The company has “more than 80 stores in nine states” and is “the market-leading optometrist in Michigan,” according to a statement. Last year, SVS Vision’s turnover was more than 100 million US dollars. Fielmann explained that the takeover of Eyevious Style is expected to take place immediately.

The two transactions “jointly formed an important milestone” in the implementation of the current “Vision 2025” strategy, the group explained. “With the takeover of SVS Vision and Befitting, we are following our Vision 2025, within the framework of which we are digitizing and internationalizing our family business,” explained CEO Marc Fielmann in a statement. “This is the first step in a long-term plan to redefine what consumers can expect in the world’s largest optical market.”
