The court sentenced the 30-year-old Belgian to ten years in prison for theft with violence resulting in death. J.’s lawyer Jacqueline Kuijper maintains that her client should be acquitted due to mistakes made during the investigation by the police and the judiciary. The Public Prosecution Service is inadmissible because the court in Assen was misled during the 2017 trial and J. did not have a fair trial, she believes.
