Fiber optic router with Wifi 6 and SFP module

In a few days the MWC starts in Barcelona. In the run-up to the trade fair, AVM presented a new Fritzbox that was specially developed for use with fiber optic connections.

The router is called Fritzbox 5590 Fiber. AVM describes it as the “new fiber optic flagship”. Thanks to the SFP module, it should be suitable for all common fiber optic connections across Europe and provide speeds of up to 10 Gbit/s, according to the manufacturer. AON (Active Optical Network), XG- and XGS-PON (Passive Optical Network) and GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) are supported.

The features of the Fritzbox 5590 Fiber

The Fritzbox 5590 Fiber looks the same as the Fritzbox 7590. It is also flat and comes in the striking colors of red and white. The new Fritzbox transmits via Wifi 6 and thus achieves up to 2400 Mbit/s over the 5 GHz band and up to 1200 Mbit/s over 2.4 GHz. There is also an up to 2.5 Gigabit fast LAN port and two USB 3.0 ports for printers and storage (NAS) on board.

As is typical for Fritzbox, the new fiber optic router also has a telephone system for DECT, IP and analogue telephones as well as an integrated answering machine. Services such as child safety, the media server, Fritz!NAS and WLAN guest access are integrated in the current Fritz!OS. AVM promises regular updates for all of its Fritz boxes. At the trade fair, the Berlin company is already giving a preview of the upcoming big Fritz!OS 7.50, which will then also be available for the Fritzbox 5590 Fiber.

AVM gives a five-year manufacturer’s guarantee on the Fritzbox. The router should be available in stores as early as spring of this year, but AVM has not yet given an exact date for the market launch. The price of the Fritzbox 5590 Fiber is not yet known either.
