Feyenoord players support sick youth player Mik (14): ‘Stronger through struggle’

The biggest title candidate in the Eredivisie has encouraged Mik Akkermans (14) from Breda on Sunday afternoon. The Feyenoord selection showed a banner for the youth football player after the Rotterdam derby won against Sparta. Mik announced last week that he has testicular cancer.

The 14-year-old is currently in the middle of his chemotherapy journey. To support him during the violent treatment, fanatical supporters made a banner for him. “Aim, stronger through struggle”, was the text on the canvas, which was on display for a long time in the away section.

After Feyenoord had put aside city rivals Sparta 1-3, the players took over the banner from their supporters. Before the show, they rolled it out to show their support. “You’ll never walk alone”, the club wrote on its Instagram, to which Mik responded with a heart.
