Due to a bizarre turn in the final phase of Feyenoord-PSV, Ajax has come a big step closer to the championship. The team from Eindhoven saw its lead evaporate at the last minute, so that Ajax is still ahead in the standings with four points. The chance that Ajax will become champion on Wednesday evening has become great again.
With a win over AZ, the championship could possibly break loose in Amsterdam this afternoon. However, things turned out differently: Ajax’s draw gave PSV a chance to approach two points. In injury time, however, after a questionable penalty by Cyriel Dessers, this was stopped, making the point difference again four.
With two games to go, Ajax is now at 79 points in the standings, while PSV has a points balance of 75 due to the draw against Feyenoord. The eyes are therefore now focused on next Wednesday evening when Ajax takes on Heerenveen at home and PSV plays at home against NEC.
In seven of the nine scenarios, Ajax is assured of the scale. Only if PSV wins on Wednesday evening and Ajax loses points, will the team from Amsterdam have to wait until Sunday. In all other scenarios Ajax is then champion or unofficial champion.
The kick-off of both matches is Wednesday at 8 p.m.
