Fewer trains on Saturday due to staff shortage | 1Limburg

Fewer trains will run on Saturday on the route between Maastricht and Alkmaar, where the intercity stops in Sittard, Roermond and Weert, among others.

The NS announced this on Friday evening. Fewer trains also run between Rotterdam – Utrecht, Schiphol – Nijmegen, Driebergen – Zeist and Utrecht – Almere. According to the service provider, the measures are necessary due to a staff shortage.

1000+ vacancies
The railways are struggling with about 1100 unfilled vacancies. The NS is not only short of drivers and conductors, but also IT staff, mechanics, safety and service employees and shop staff at the stations. State Secretary Vivianne Heijnen (Infrastructure) previously made it clear to the House of Representatives that the shortages may persist for a longer period of time, even after the summer.
