Fewer police controls at Berlin’s crime hotspots! So far this year, 5,493 people have been searched at the hotspots and 7,559 identities have been identified.

This emerges from an answer to a question from the left in the House of Representatives. Alexanderplatz, Görlitzer Park, Hermannplatz, Hermannstrasse, Kottbusser Tor, Rigaer Strasse and Warsaw Bridge are considered to be “crime-prone places”.

While 5,493 people were searched by the end of June this year, it was 6,629 in the first half of 2022. The number of identity checks has also decreased slightly. In the first six months of 2022 it was 7955, now 7559.

Fewer identities found in the Görli

The downward trend also partly applies to the Görli! This year, the officers in Kreuzberg identified 1,518 people (2022: 1,664) and searched 1,319 people (2022: 1,336).

The police recently announced that there have been 949 crimes in the park this year – 21 of which were sexual offences, including eight serious ones. In one case, a couple was mugged and robbed by a group of dealers. Then the man had to watch his girlfriend being raped.

The perpetrators were initially able to flee, according to BZ reports there have now been three arrests.
