Festive anniversary for Heidehiem nursing home in Emmen

Residents of the Heidehiem residential care center in Emmen can prepare for a party in the coming days. Their ‘house’ was opened 65 years ago and that is being celebrated these days.

The festivities started this morning, as Heidehiem employees handed out breakfasts to all residents, for whom the center has been a household name for a large part of their lives. “A lot of people live in the area and Heidehiem is a familiar name to all of them,” says employee Elyse Leveling. The original building no longer exists, because the old Heideheim was demolished in 2009. Three years later, the residents were able to move into the new building.

Mrs. Breider is really looking forward to the festivities, but does not necessarily need them to have a good time in the nursing home. “I’ve only lived here for 2.5 years, but I couldn’t wish for better. What a beautiful place and what a beautiful room.” And she doesn’t get bored. “There is always something to do here. You can do gymnastics, you can play bingo, you can play shuffleboard. And we often go to the restaurant in the evening, then we sit at the table with four ladies and talk about the day. “
