Pearl Village and Weijdepop in Dalen have put an end to their collaboration. According to the organization, ‘after careful evaluation and consultation about the future, it has been decided that Pearl Village Festival & Weijdepop will no longer be organized in its current composition’.
Weijdepop was first organized in 2015 by five friends from Dalen. A year later it was supplemented with Pearl Village, conceived by Jory Bosch and Frank Egberink. That festival attracted 400 visitors.
Ultimately, Pearl Village & Weijdepop welcomed 4,500 visitors per day. In recent years, the festival site has also been expanded from one marquee to four different stages with dozens of artists.
This year the festival was in danger of not going ahead after some villagers went to court over nuisance. After a number of discussions between local residents, the organization and the municipality of Coevorden, the light was finally given the green light.
Separately, the Weijdepop Foundation and the Pearl Village Foundation will continue to organize events in or around Dalen. “It is not yet clear what this means for 2024,” the board writes.
