Festival of the Senses: Synaesthesia Festival VIII in Berlin

The headliners for the 8th Synaesthesia Festival in Berlin have been announced. More about this here!

The Synaesthesia Festival is entering its eighth year this year. After seven editions, the alternative festival celebrates its eighth anniversary at the KulturBrauerei Berlin on the weekend of November 10th and 11th.

The Synaesthesia Festival has been taking place in the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg since 2015 – like last year, on the grounds around the cultural center and the KulturBrauerei with the Kesselhaus as the main venue. Now the first artists have been announced.

The headliner of this year’s Synaesthesia Festival is the French psych punk rock band La Femme. Other bands announced were Holy Wave, Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys and The Warlocks, who were already present at the first edition of the festival.

“La Femme has been on festival fans’ wish lists for years and we’re thrilled that we were able to convince them to come this year,” said festival founder and curator Alex Remzi.

History of the Synaesthesia Festival

The festival emerged from the community surrounding the 8MM Bar, which Alex Remzi founded in 2002 as a catch-all for all music nerds. In recent years acts such as Spiritualized, Slow Dive, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Horrors, Deerhunter, The Black Lips, Stereolab and Krautrock legends Faust have been guests.

In 2015 the first edition of the Synaesthesia Festival took place in Berlin. The idea for this came to the founder and organizer Alex Remzi much earlier. As the owner of the 8MM Bar, he organized the first 8MM music label night in 2006. More than 300 visitors came to the event at the time. In the following ten years, Remzi organized countless concerts. This eventually culminated in 2015 with a three week string of shows and performances featuring independent bands such as The Warlocks, Crocodiles and The Lumerians. That was the birth of the Synaesthesia Festival.

In 2018, the festival moved to its current home, the KulturBrauerei in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin. The organizers aim to make the Synaesthesia Festival better from year to year. Finally, in 2022, Remzi sold his shares in the 8MM Bar and donated the proceeds to found the festival as a non-profit limited liability company with the aim of promoting live music and an enduring, local music community.
