From Friday, the city’s landmarks will once again be lit up and flashing at the “Festival of Lights”.

And to be honest, my first impulse was outrage. The town hall, Brandenburg Gate and Goldelse were switched off, the Christmas lights will not even be switched on this year due to the crisis and we should also save energy at home.

In these times of all times is the lavish spectacle being staged?

Then I remembered how nice it was to walk from Kreuzberg to Potsdamer Platz and down the Linden with colleagues after work.

Come down, peek a little, marvel a little.

This year even 75 percent of electricity will be saved and the magic of light will be completely financed by sponsors. So don’t just always be outraged! Put your jacket on, go outside and shine again yourself!
