Festival goers angry: “Who sells tickets without the permit being issued?”

Christiaan is disappointed, now that his King’s Day plans have fallen to pieces. “I was really looking forward to it, it would be my first festival after corona,” said Christiaan. He reads the message from the organization on his phone. “Another festival can’t be found either, everything is already sold out,” Christiaan said.

It’s big news today: Orange King’s Day is cancelled. The festival with two locations (Alkmaar & Amersfoort) has been canceled due to the lack of a permit in Alkmaar. “I think it’s ridiculous that you’re selling tickets for something that doesn’t have a permit yet,” says Christiaan.

Other festival-goers are also surprised or disappointed on social media such as Facebook and Instagram. They wonder why the organization has played nice weather all this time, while the party apparently wasn’t over yet.

Christiaan has bought tickets for his entire group of friends. It is still unknown what they will do with King’s Day. “I already said jokingly: we should put up boxes ourselves and have a party in the parking lot,” said Christiaan. Due to the late cancellation, Christiaan and his friends have little choice where to go. “Then you have to go to Groningen or something, you don’t want that.”

The group of friends will probably go to the city center of Alkmaar on King’s Day. “We are going to roam around and drink a lot, then it will probably be fun too”, Christiaan laughs.

Under the message from the organization on Instagram, the reactions pour in:
