Ferry Westeinde will be out of service again for at least a few hours, this time due to a malfunction

Due to a malfunction, the Westeinde ferry between Anna Paulowna/Breezand and Julianadorp is out of service. The municipality of Hollands Kroon reports this Facebook. Efforts are being made to get the ferry back into service within a few hours, but there are no guarantees.

Lately the ferry has been out of service more often. This happened in May after a motorist suffered a fatal accident when he collided with the ferry, causing the ferry to was severely damaged.

Also in August there was another glitch, and last week the ferry could not sail because there was an object in the propeller of the ferry. Last Thursday the ferry was finally repaired. And now the ferry cannot sail again due to a malfunction, the cause of which is unknown.

Bicycle bridge

The ferry is mainly used by cyclists. At the beginning of this year, a petition for longer sailing times or a bicycle bridge instead of the ferry across the Noordhollandsch Kanaal was signed en masse.

The province then announced to investigate the possibility. Local residents indicated, however to be against changes.
