Ferry tickets Riveer considerably more expensive: ‘Diesel prices have risen enormously’

The tickets for ferry services of Riveer will become significantly more expensive this month. On average, a ticket for a single crossing is 10 percent more expensive. The reason for the rate increase is the rising prices. “The diesel prices in particular have risen enormously,” reports the ferry service that operates in Werkendam, Woudrichem and Sleeuwijk.

Not only the day tickets for a single transfer are going up. Multi-journey tickets are also experiencing a significant price increase. A 10-ride ticket, including bicycle, at Werkendam and Woudrichem now cost 14.70 euros, from Monday 21 November more than 22 euros must be paid for it.

“Tariffs last went up in 2019 and are now being raised in view of the significant cost increases,” said Riveer, who is also announcing another price increase. “From April 1, 2023, tickets will be increased annually by the price index.”

The subscription for adults will also disappear on the foot and bicycle ferries that sail to Werkendam, Sleeuwijk and Woudrichem. This will be replaced by 10-, 20- and 40-ride cards. “The school subscriptions will continue to exist,” says Riveer, who transfers hundreds of students on working days who go to school from the Altena region in Gorinchem.

The ferry service is a very important form of public transport for the residents of Werkendam, Sleeuwijk and Woudrichem. For work and school, many passengers make the crossing to ‘the other side’ every day, destined for Gorinchem and Hardinxveld. In the summer months, tens of thousands of tourists also use the ferry services, including to visit the fortified town of Woudrichem and the nearby Slot Loevestein.

The current tickets that are still in circulation are valid until November 21, 2023. Paper multi-journey tickets and the old Rondje Pontje day ticket are only valid in 2022. “It is therefore important for customers that they do not purchase too many tickets at a time, with the risk that remaining journeys will expire,” says Riveer.
