Tour de France, 15th stage
Founding moment for Lipowitz: German survives fall
07/20/2025 – 5:34 p.m.Reading time: 2 min.

Florian Lipowitz has to take a deep breath on the section from Muret to Carcassonne. In the end, he can also defend a prestige object.
Florian Lipowitz deeply blew through when the target passage through. The German cycling shooting star survived a delicate stress test in the white jersey on his dream tour and tackles the final week of the 112nd tour of France as a crash as a whole.
While the Belgian Tim Wellens triumphed as a soloist in the shadow of Carcassonne’s medieval fortress, Lipowitz got away on the extremely hectic 15th stage with a horror. The 24-year-old from the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe team had come down early, but fought back and rolled on the side of the top stars around leader Tadej Pogačar. As the leader of the youth classification, Lipowitz took part in the award ceremony for the second time after the premiere in the Pyrenees.
The main actor of the day was Pogačar helpers Wellens. The Belgian master attacked Pas Sant from an escape group on the last climb and drove out a larger gap on the rivals. At the finish, Wellens was 1:28 minutes ahead of his compatriot Victor Campenaerts. With his first tour of the tour, Wellens has now achieved at least one day of the day on all major national tours.
UAE captain and world champion Pogačar drives towards his fourth overall victory in the yellow jersey. The Slovene leads the classification with a 4:13 minute lead over the Danish ex-champion Jonas Vingegaard. Lipowitz (+ 7:53 minutes) follows at a greater distance, his upholstery on the fourth -placed British Oscar Onley is 1:25 minutes.
After three intensive mountain stages in the Pyrenees, the classification drivers around the top trio Pogačar, Vingegaard and Lipowitz had hoped for a rather quiet overpass stage-and were quickly caught up with reality. This was particularly true for Lipowitz.
The Ulmer was involved in a mass fall after only 17 km, but was apparently spared injuries and immediately continued the journey. Lipowitz concluded with team support and thanks to a Pogač-power word for the Peloton. The world champion had asked his colleagues to make a speed.
The Hatz through the Pyrenees foreland remained chaotic even after the merger. Wind edges divided the field and also demanded great vigilance from Lipowitz. The dynamics in the main field calmed down late.
While Lipowitz and Co. rolled towards the goal in a network, the outliers fought for the day of the day. Wellens, who had previously only worked for Pogačar’s yellow dream, used the rare freedoms in the UAE team. The 34-year-old teared out 43.5 km before the finish line and then played out his qualities in the time trial. In the last few meters, Wellens clapped with the fans on the edge of the route.
On Saturday, the stars around Pogačar opened the rivalry over the Col du Tourmalet and continued to the destination in Superbagnères. Lipowitz underpinned his place in the top of the world. The tour debut-also took over the overall ranking and the leadership in the youth classification-also favored by the failure of double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel. Wearing the associated white jersey is “something very special,” said Lipowitz: “It feels like a fairy tale.”
After the rest day on Monday, he wants to continue it on Tuesday at the legendary Mont Ventoux.
