Superstar Lewis Hamilton will drive a Ferrari from 2025. Carlos Sainz will have to give up his place in the red racer – and is now reacting.
The sensational move of Formula 1 record world champion Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes to Ferrari for the 2025 season is making waves. The change also has an impact on Carlos Sainz. Because of Hamilton’s commitment, it is now clear that the Spaniard’s contract with Ferrari will not be extended. He has to look for a new team next season.
After the official announcement of the Hamilton deal, Sainz reacted on his social media profiles. “Following today’s news, Scuderia Ferrari and I will part ways at the end of 2024,” he wrote.
The 29-year-old now wants to concentrate on the upcoming season, which he will contest in the Ferrari: “We still have a long season ahead of us and, as always, I will do my absolute best for the team and the Tifosi give to the whole world.” He will provide information about his own future “in due course.”
Sainz joined Ferrari for the 2021 season, where he replaced four-time German world champion Sebastian Vettel. He previously worked in Formula 1 for Toro Rosso (now Visa Cash App RB), Renault and McLaren.
It is completely unclear which racing team Sainz will compete for in the future. It would be conceivable that he would take the opposite approach and replace Hamilton at Mercedes. However, involvement with the Sauber racing team, which will be taken over by Audio from 2026, would also be conceivable. He could maintain good connections with the German brand through his father, rally legend Carlos Sainz Senior, who won the Dakar Rally in an Audi at the beginning of the year.
