Ferrari “beats” Red Bull in 2024 Formula 1 crash tests

In terms of sport, Ferrari was behind Red Bull in the 2023 Formula 1 season, but at least in the crash test for the new 2024 cars, the Scuderia now seems to have “beaten” the bulls. According to information from “Motorsport-Total.com”, the new Ferrari has already passed this test.

The car for the 2024 season, which does not yet have an official name and is referred to as “Project 676”, is said to have successfully completed the crash test required by the FIA for all Formula 1 cars in Bollate, Italy, before Christmas.

Apparently Red Bull also wanted to complete this test before the mandatory “shutdown” at the end of the year. But rumors say that the new front of the RB20 did not pass the crash test.

According to Helmut Marko, who confirms between the lines that the new car failed the first crash test, this is not a problem – on the contrary. He emphasized to “F1-Insider.com”: “If we had passed the first crash test, there would be a problem.”

Formula 1: “…then we would have done a bad job”

“Then we would have done a bad job,” said Marko. Background: Red Bull is known for pushing the limits when designing its cars. As a result, they had apparently already expected that the first test would not necessarily pass.

For the 2024 season, among other things, the bulls want to further reduce the weight of the car, which is why it is rumored that the nose will also be smaller than before. This may have contributed to the failure of the crash test on the first attempt.

As Marko already explained, this isn’t a problem at first, as Red Bull can simply repeat the test with an adapted chassis. Unlike Ferrari, the bulls have their FIA crash tests carried out in Cranfield, Great Britain.

Red Bull has not yet announced an official presentation date for the RB20. Ferrari will unveil its new car for the 2024 Formula 1 season to the world on February 13th.
