Fernando Alonso was the celebrated hero of the Canadian GP’s time trials.
Alpine’s 40-year-old Spanish star did perfectly as the track dried minute by minute. Alonso’s last lap was enough to elevate him to second place. Only the pile man had time left Max Verstappen.
– This feels good. The whole weekend has gone well. The car was awesome today, Alonso got excited after the session in a TV interview.
An amusing confusion was then seen. The top three of the time trials will head for a televised press conference at the end of the races, but Alonso whispered from the muscle memory to the interviewers among the other drivers.
May Alonso be forgiven. The last time Alonso was in the forefront was almost ten years ago. At the German GP in 2012, he grabbed a pole position.
The previous TOP3 ranking from time to time is from the 2013 finals in Brazil. Since then, the career of a two-time world champion has been one of suffering in the fleet of Ferrari, McLaren and Renault.
