• The former minister is ratified in his statements before the judge and in Congress

The former Minister of the Interior Jorge Fernández Díaz has “flatly” denied that he had had contact with the former Commissioner José Manuel Villarejo and has insisted on fully ratify the content of their statements rendered both in court and in parliament, according to a statement from his defense collected by Europa Press.

The audios broadcast this week by ‘El País’ reflect that Fernández Díaz would have received at the Ministry of the Interior several times between 2012 and 2016 both the then commissioner and the deputy director of operations (DAO) of the time, Eugenio Pino, to orchestrate the so-called ‘Operation Catalonia’.

Fernandez Diaz could face a judicial investigation for giving false testimony in the commission developed in the Congress of Deputies on ‘Operation Kitchen’, where he said that he had never dispatched with José Manuel Villarejo, something that would come to contradict said audios, although the investigations would escape the reach of the National Court -which investigates to the commissioner – because they would be the responsibility of an ordinary court.
