One of the most overrated players of all time. It was clear that he would do everything again without performing. He exploited the system, respect for it, and made a lot of money. It doesn’t get any better than that.
Can’t remember a good international match. But yeah, wasn’t his country either.
And otherwise ne Habsvoll good actions.
It’s kind of good that he also failed in his home country.
But of course, his last 5 trainers are the losers…
My friend, your post is just dripping with ignorance, so I’ll be so kind as to give you a few facts to give you some food for thought:
1. “Can’t remember a good international match. But yeah, it wasn’t his country either.”: Özil has been named Germany Player of the Year five times (2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016) and scored 63 times in 92 appearances, i.e. 0.68 scorers per game. For comparison: As a midfielder (!), Özil is roughly in the range of Thomas Müller, who as a HS 84 scorer in 116 games (0.72 scorers per game). It doesn’t look to me like he didn’t try hard because it’s not “his country”.
2. “And otherwise a good deal of good actions”: If you only did a handful of good actions, the following achievements would not have been avoided: UEFA Team of the Year 2012 and 2013, Player of the Season 14/15, 1x World Champion, 1x Spanish Champion and Cup winner, 1x German cup winner, 4x English cup winner, 1x U21 European champion.
3. One of the best coaches of recent years, Jose Mourinho, voted Özil into the top XI of his entire coaching career, saying: “Özil is unique, there is no copy of him, not even a bad one. He’s the top ten in the world. Everyone loves him and can see a bit of Figo and Zidane in him.”
“Özil is the best number 10 in the world. There is no copy of him, not even a bad one.”
One of the best players in football history, Cristiano Ronaldo, says of Özil: “Özil is fantastic. He can read the game and knows when to pass and when to dribble. This is pure class. Özil made me the best striker in the world.”
So if the two of them can’t judge it well, who can?
Özil’s body language has always been suboptimal and his retirement from the national team inglorious, I agree with every critic, but I deny him his footballing class and to call him one of the most overrated players of all time, despite his individual and team successes, is wrong in every respect .
