G.he ingredients of success on a global scale are all there. Two fashion houses with well-defined codes that dance together. A name, a catchy crasis, a real partnership. An advertising campaign already well placed on giant posters in the main cities of the world (including Milan!). Even a launch video with the inevitable Naomi Campbell in the role of bouncer. Save the date: 12 May. It’s about to hit the shops Fendace, the collection resulting from the collaboration between Fendi and Versace. And we already know it will be a triumph.
Fendace, a special collaboration
Unity is strength. We saw it with the Gucci / Balenciaga hack (and with the numerous other co-labs of the season). For once it is not just a “fashion” concept of recent times, but a reality of purpose, concrete. “It is the beauty of being together”, states the press release. Because in Fendace the creative swap is at the nth degree and creativity. And points to maintain the identity of the two brands, without distorting their heritage.
In a game of total intentions and intentions. It is no coincidence that these are two distinct Prefall 2022 collections: Versace by Fendi and Fendi by Versace. Both were presented on the last day of Milan Fashion Week in September 2021 during a “secret” fashion show staged live in via Gesù, in front of a handful of selected guests – as well as live on Instagram.
«It is the first time in the history of fashion that two designers have had a real creative dialogue that comes from respect and friendship. This led us to switch roles to create these two collections ». Thus, instead of creating a simple limited edition, Kim Jones designed Versace (Silvia Venturini Fendi took care of the men’s line), while Donatella played Fendi.
“This is not a collaboration …”, specify from the fashion houses. «The union of Fendi and Versace, two iconic fashion houses, or more rightly, two iconoclastic groups of people, has led to this unique moment in fashion. It is both a celebration of Italian fashion and a break from the infernal order of things established, Fendace is fashion with a capital F and a capital V. Together it represents Freedom, Fun and Virtuosity“.
Everything about the collection
Logomania blends with multicolor. Femininity dances with tradition. From the maison they specify the peculiarities of the two different collections that will be sold in pop-up stores and selected stores. Versace by Fendi has a multigenerational approach and is inspired by the period between the mid to late nineties. The line explores an idea of duality, seen most clearly in one fusion of the Fendi monogram with the Versace Greek Key motif. Here the garments are transformed, many are reversible, have hidden codes but flaunt all the craftsmanship of the Fendi atelier (especially in the leather garments).
Fendi by Versace voluntarily assumes a more punk rock stance at the behest of Donatella Versace. Here the Versace safety pins are the key that opens the door to Fendi signs and symbols. Lace blends with crystal-encrusted Fendi’s Fs in a never-before-seen interpretation of the monogram. And then silk with denim and shearling and everything suggests a Fendi world a little more rebellious. What to say? Brilliant.
