As of: 07/18/2022 7:46 p.m

Epee fencer Alexandra Ndolo from Bonn won the silver medal at the World Championships in Cairo.

The 35-year-old lost 10:11 in “Sudden Death” to Se-ra Song from South Korea in the gripping final on Monday evening. Ndolo was the first German woman to win a silver medal at the World Championships in Kazan since Britta Heidemann eight years ago.

First World Championship medal for Ndolo

It is the first World Cup medal for the epee fencer from Bonn. In 2017 she won silver at the European Championships in Georgia, two years later bronze at the European Championships in Düsseldorf.

In the semi-finals, Ndolo defeated the two-time world champion Rossella Fiamingo from Italy 15:10, in the round of 16 she had already defeated the South Korean world number one In-Jeong Choi 15:9.

Saber men get nothing

The saber men of the German Fechter-Bund (DFeB) missed a medal at the start. Matyas Szabo was the last German to fail in the round of 16 against Sang-uk Oh from South Korea. After the career end of exceptional fencer Max Hartung, the team that won gold at the 2019 European Championships is in the process of being rebuilt.

At the World Championships in Egypt, there will be more individual decisions on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by the team competitions.
