Femke Halsema in Rutger’s taxi leads to record number of zappers

Rutger Castricum has scored a record number of zappers with his taxi guest Femke Halsema. “No other program has had so many zappers this year.”

While Rutger Castricum’s performances in the ratings hit Today Inside are well viewed, the TV shows he makes for the NPO just don’t want to score. They are all ratings flops and that is of course disastrous for his TV career. Yesterday, only 375 thousand people (9 percent market share) watched his program Taxi Castricum.

Femke does not score

Rutger, who interviewed Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema in this episode of his taxi show, was right after the big winner on prime time, namely De Rijdende Rechter, which scored 1.2 million viewers (26 percent). It is unprecedented that so many viewers drop out of NPO 1, says viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp.

According to Tina it is really a rarity, she writes. “It means that no less than 825 thousand (!!!) viewers zap away after De Rijdende Rechter. No other program has had so many away zappers this year. Weirdly programmed, too random for Op1 and odd length. More of a YouTube program than suitable for NPO 1.”

Judge scores

How is it possible that De Rijdende Rechter is still such a huge hit after all these years? Enter Tina Veronica Superguide: “It is sensational. A lot of quarrels, a lot of name-calling and, especially for the viewer, a lot of disbelief because that quarrel is never really about anything big: always the hedge or the boundary.”

People like to marvel at it, Tina explains. “It is also very clear, because very predictable. And it appeals to the ‘compared to the misery of others, we’re actually pretty good’ feeling.”

Run on one

Which talk show attracted the most attention yesterday? “Renze (587,000 viewers) had slightly more viewers than Op1 (575,000) and is the best-watched talk show of the day,” reports Joost Maiburg, RTL Boulevard’s ratings expert, on his analysis channel.

He continues: “In terms of market shares, Renze also gains significantly with 18.6 percent versus 8.0 percent. Op1 therefore had a lousy lead-in with Taxi Castricum. Rutger Castricum’s other program, Hofbar, scored almost the same on NPO 2 (369 thousand).”
