Femke Bol takes silver in 400 meters hurdles during World Athletics Championships

Femke Bol has won a silver medal in the final of the 400 meters hurdles at the World Athletics Championships. In the American Eugene, the Dutch athlete was only beaten by the big favorite Sydney McLaughlin. It is the second silver medal for Bol this world championship, after the silver for the mixed Dutch team in the 4×400 meters.

Bol, who is the first Dutch athlete to win a World Cup medal in the 400m hurdles, finished the race in 52.27 seconds. Sydney McLaughlin was more than 1.5 seconds faster than Bol and set a world record with a time of 50.68. Dalilah Muhammad, 32, finished third. Muhammad had kept Bol off the silver at the Tokyo Games last year.

The fact that Bol does not finish first in a competition is a rarity: in Europe, the 22-year-old athlete won all her competitions in the 400 meters this year. However, McLaughlin had already set a world record in the distance this year and came under it again at the Hayward Field stadium.
