The five-time boxing world champion Felix Sturm will not end his career just yet. He will return to the ring in Stuttgart on February 18, he revealed. His big goal is the sixth title.
In March, the 43-year-old lost the elimination match against Istvan Szili and thus missed the chance of another world title. However, it is not yet clear if the Hungarian will agree to a rematch.
“It’s no secret that I would like to box against him and become world champion for the sixth time,” said Sturm. “But I don’t have to force it.” Should Szili not agree, Sturm and his promoter team have alternatives up their sleeves. “There will not be just any fight. The level should be high,” said Sturm about the fight, for which more than 6,000 spectators are expected.
Born in Leverkusen, he is not yet thinking about the end of his career. “I like to train and boxing is my passion. The sport has given me a lot, but I still want to achieve my goals and then stop with a clear conscience,” said the super middleweight.
A charity fight between the former head of the Porsche works council, Uwe Hück, and the former heavyweight world champion, Francois Botha, will also take place in the Porsche Arena that evening. The South African defeated Axel Schulz in Stuttgart 27 years ago in a controversial fight that resulted in bottles, glasses and chairs being thrown.
