Felix Götze after the game against Dynamo Dresden: “Spitted on and insulted”

The duel between Dynamo Dresden and Rot-Weiss Essen on Saturday was a heated one. Apparently a few Saxon supporters crossed a border.

The top game of the 3rd league on Saturday ended with a 2-2 draw. The game between second (Dynamo Dresden) and sixth (Rot-Weiss Essen) in the table was always heated and intense. Even in stoppage time, things continued to get serious – with a painful end for Felix Götze, defender of the guests from Essen.

The brother of world champion Mario Götze and Dresden’s Jakob Lemmer collided with their heads in a duel. Both needed treatment. The game was then over for Felix Götze, who was bleeding heavily. RWE played the rest of injury time with ten men as the substitution contingent had already been exhausted.

“There are limits and unfortunately they were crossed yesterday”

Götze’s memories of the game were not only bad because of the painful injuries. He wrote on Instagram on Sunday evening: “But there is one thing on my mind that I just have to get out of my head here. Yesterday I cried for the first time in my football career. Not because of the pain, but because it was humiliating, with my face bleeding and under Shock to be insulted, spit on and thrown at. There are limits and unfortunately they were crossed yesterday.”

The 26-year-old continued: “I love this sport and I appreciate all the fans, because without you football wouldn’t be what it is. Please stay there full of emotions and with this fire.” His appeal: “Despite all emotions, certain boundaries simply cannot be exceeded – that was unfortunately the case yesterday. There is a person in every jersey that is worn down on the pitch.”

At least: Götze is on the mend again after being cared for by the medical staff on site.
