Talent calendar
The history of Peruvian professionals at FC Bayern is not that long, but Claudio Pizarro and Paolo Guerrero were the only two to leave a lasting impression. The former in particular is the reason why the Bundesliga remains so important in South America’s third largest country. With Felipe Chávez, a talent is currently preparing to continue the story.
The offensive player was born in Augsburg in 2007 to a Peruvian father and a German mother. Chávez, who, as the nephew of Víctor Chávez, who was previously active in Peru, came into contact with professional football since childhood, took his first development steps at FC Augsburg. But it didn’t take long for the big FC Bayern to notice him and at the age of 12, the now 17-year-old moved to the record champions’ youth team.
Development there has continued unabated since then. Chávez is a small, swirly offensive player and measures just 1.68 meters. A few years ago, the first videos of the youngster appeared on the Internet, which attracted attention primarily because of his small height and fast dribbling.
From Rafinha to Pizarro: Legionnaires with the most Bundesliga appearances
Chávez can operate both on the wings and on the ten and his repertoire now extends beyond dribbling. Rather, in recent years he has proven himself to be a strategist who directs the game behind the leaders and poses a goal threat at the same time. In the U17 Bundesliga, the two-footed talent has ten goals and three assists after 16 appearances.
Not surprisingly, Chávez, who has both a German and a Peruvian passport, is on the DFB’s list and was nominated for the U15 team last year. At the beginning of this year, however, he moved to the U17s of his father’s home country. There he played two games at the U17 South American Championship in Ecuador.
In the coming years, Chávez would like to make the leap to the Bayern professionals and continue writing the story of Pizarro and Guerrero. The fact that the youngster not only happens to have the same nationality as the two strikers, but is actually emulating his idols, becomes clear when he chooses his jersey number in his national dress. There, Chávez wears the number 14 – just as Pizarro did during his two positions in Munich from 2001 to 2007 and from 2012 to 2015.
