fejn jewelry – Sustainable production in Thailand

Fair trading, sustainable jewelery and responsible production have been at the top of the agenda at fejn jewelry since the label was founded. Designed in the studio in Cologne, the pieces of jewelery by fejn jewelry are made in Thailand with a lot of love and real craftsmanship – according to the highest standards in terms of responsible production. When looking for a suitable location for sustainable and social jewelry production, the label was quickly convinced by a small manufactory in Thailand.

Jewelry production has a long tradition in Thailand and is by no means a product of globalization. For centuries, Thailand has been particularly well known for the production of silver jewellery, today around a quarter of the world’s silver jewelery is made in Thailand. And there are also social reasons for jewelery from Thailand: Jewelery production is an important and lucrative branch of the economy for the Thais, because it secures thousands of jobs. It is interesting that women in particular are employed in the jewelry production companies, in fact they make up the majority of the workers.

When choosing the producers, the Cologne brand set the highest quality standards. The partner workshop in Thailand is RJC-certified and represents the environmentally conscious and social values of the label. In addition, the fejn team regularly checks the products, the production and of course the working conditions on site. For the founder of the label, Dagmar Krämer, the visits to Thailand play a particularly important role: “On site, we discuss how the future can be made even better. For me it is always a real experience and at the same time impressive and instructive. The predominantly female workers put their heart and soul into the real jewelry and make it special. They are an important part of the fejn quality promise.”

Of course, the transport route for the jewelry is not exactly short. Every single piece has a long journey behind it – and fejn jewelry wants to make it as environmentally friendly as possible. The transport routes are therefore 100% climate-neutral. This applies both to the route from production to the studio in Cologne and to the route to the customer’s home.
