The coexistence of profiles of all sensitivities, including Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo or Rafa Hernando in Congress, seeks to “fill all the gaps” on the right and shrink Vox’s space in national politics once and for all: Feijóo assumes which is the next step so that the PP can govern one day

Alberto Núñez Feijóo settlement internal restructuring of his match this week. The focus was on the steering committee, but in the parliamentary groups, especially the Congress, there were also relevant developments. The leader of the PP has made two decisions. The first, merge Genoa (the party headquarters where strategic decisions are made) with the Parliament team, aware that it will be its main showcase in a turbulent legislature. The second, recover names like that of Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo to ensure that the party “fill all the gaps” right. The decision looks at shrink Vox’s space definitively.

If something was clear in the electoral result of the general elections, it is that as long as Santiago Abascal’s party has strength, neither the PP will recover the comfortable majorities it had years ago, nor will it be easy to return to Moncloa. No political force, not even the center-right nationalists, is willing to share an equation with Vox. This has consolidated support for Pedro Sánchez and has established the political framework that now dominates the scene in Spain: PP and Vox on the one hand, and the PSOE on the other with all the pro-independence, nationalist and regionalist formations, plus Sumar.

Pedro Sánchez justifies the amnesty that he previously declared unconstitutional based on that same story. Either the PSOE signed the general forgiveness of what was the process or the right (“reactionary right” says the President of the Government) could reach the central government after new elections. Feijóo needs to break that framework once and for all. The Galician’s plan was always recover dialogue with other parties in the medium term but, above all, get out of the isolation you have reached through Vox.

At the same time, the situation of strong polarization installed in society due to the Government’s pacts with the independentists forces the PP to lead a type of opposition that Feijóo did not have either, including that of the street. This Sunday the popular people once again call for a demonstration in Madridalso convinced of having stolen that flag from Vox (which has ended up supporting the concentrations at Ferraz’s door with pre-constitutional symbols).

In that sense, different PP officials agree, It is not worth it only with the institutional tone and the politics that Feijóo and a good part of the leadership represent. “They were necessary combative names that agitate the electorate and guarantee that the PP will always be there,” they reflect.

May the voice of the party remain in the hands of Borja Sempera profile recognized as moderate internally, and coexists with the deputy spokesperson of Álvarez de Toledo, Sergio Sayas (former leader of UPN and with a forceful tone) or the well-known Rafael Hernando (he was already spokesperson with Mariano Rajoy) in Congress he sends a very clear message. The PP does not want to give up any space within the right and in the debates in which Vox can play its cards, different leaders consulted by this newspaper agree, “those profiles eat up the space and destroy it”.

In the national leadership they do not hide that the objective, now, unequivocally, goes through “eat the space of Vox. The difficulty once again is not to scare away the centrist electorate for which Feijóo has fought so hard while monopolizing the hard opposition to Sánchez. And hence the decision to bring together very diverse political profiles, which guarantee unity within the PP and, above all, that they can address all right-wing voters. “It makes us truly permeable”summary in the conservative leadership.

In the national leadership, despite the fact that the first ring of power continues to be held by the same people (Cuca Gamarra, Carmen Fúnez, Miguel Tellado, Elías Bendodo, Esteban González Pons…) there are names that provide novelty, youth and a very different tone . The Madrid deputy Noelia Nunezcandidate for the Fuenlabrada City Council and very close to Isabel Díaz Ayuso, is a clear example of this.

It is also Ester Muñoz, from Castilla y León, and called to be one of the most media voices of the new PP. From both, important leaders recognize, one can expect “that they will fight every battle.” against the left with a style that, perhaps, differs from that which until now came out of Genoa.

In the party they assume that “freshness” was needed; and “changes.” Feijóo ruled out a revolution, but he has surprised more than many expected. Those “profound changes” that were initially predicted They have arrived for many. And those consulted by this newspaper in the management, in the parliamentary group and also in the PP of Madrid assure that the Galician leader “he has demonstrated political intelligence” with movements that integrate the different sensitivities of the party and that they are heading to finish off their rival on the right.
