Feel like a party? Come to Alkmaar Relief this weekend

Alkmaar will be in ‘party mode’ this weekend. The Alkmaarders traditionally celebrate Alkmaar Ontzet on October 8, and that party starts today with, among other things, the lantern procession and street parties in the city center. Read below what you can expect.

Before the lantern procession through the city begins, a wreath is traditionally laid tonight at the statue of Victorien in the Victorie Park. The municipality will then organize the 8 October reception in the Grote Kerk.

The hospitality industry is also booming. Today, but also tomorrow and Sunday, there are relief parties on and around the Waagplein, the Platte Stenenbrug, Paardenmarkt and on the Ritsevoort. And do you want to dance in silence? You can do that this afternoon (free) during the Silent Disco in the library at Canadaplein.

Great Afternoon Parade

Tomorrow the whole city will be filled with Relief. In the morning there is much to do for children: including cheese-carrying competitions, fire brigade demonstrations and the children’s parade. In the Kennemer Park there is a ring sign and in the Grote Kerk the Relief Speech is recited.

Highlights in the afternoon are the Great Afternoon Parade with floats and walking groups through the city and the joint sauerkraut meal. NH Nieuws will broadcast an extensive compilation of the parade on Saturday at 5.10 pm.
