Federico Salvai, the former chief of staff of María Eugenia Vidal during her period as governor of the province of Buenos Aires, was summoned by Horacio Rodríguez Larreta to help him in the campaign that starts this June 25, after the closing of the lists.
Salvai was tempted to be the campaign manager for the Buenos Aires mayor’s presidential race, but he preferred to avoid such a commitment because it was incompatible with his private activities. But since politics is an important part of his life, he agreed to “give a hand” in the organization of the Larreta structure in the interior of the country “to amplify the message of Larreta.”
The problem is that Larreta’s new collaborator heads Mauricio Macri’s black list, who has been having a bad relationship with the candidate in recent months due to his gestures of independence. Why doesn’t Macri love Salvai? The reasons mentioned in the corridors of the PRO are three.
First: Salvai was the one behind the so-called “Plan V” that consisted of Vidal replacing the former president as a candidate for the Casa Rosada in 2019, something that Macri read as a slight.
Second: it was also Salvai who promoted Vidal’s application in the City in 2021, when Macri insisted that she play in the Province.
Third but not least: it was Salvai who tempted Facundo Manes to integrate the list of the 2017 Buenos Aires legislative elections, something that Macri fervently opposed because he despises the radical neuroscientist. In the end, Manes was not part of the game.
Skin issue. The autonomy with which Salvai moves has always infuriated the former president. He is aware of these comments and every time the subject is brought up in conversation with other political colleagues, he downplays them and adds that Macri never told him or made him feel uncomfortable. At Vidal’s wedding with journalist Enrique Sacco -Salvai’s colleague- they danced in a circle with his wives: Carolina Stanley and Juliana Awada. In 2019, Salvai spent the summer in the country of Villa La Angostura Cumelen and played paddle tennis every day with Macri. Mysteries of human relationships.
Salvai is married to Carolina Stanley, Macri’s former Minister of Social Development and daughter of Guillermo “Willy” Stanley, an investment businessman who manages the Inverlat fund.
Jorge, the cousin of the former president, is the Macri with whom he does get along, and he is even giving him a hand to be mayor of Buenos Aires. But with Mauricio praise is not given.
