The federal police arrested numerous visiting fans during checks before the Champions League game between Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.
The federal police announced on Wednesday that pyrotechnics, masking material and pepper spray were seized from the PSG supporters. Emergency services from the Netherlands and Belgium were also involved in the measures at the German-Dutch and German-Belgian borders.
“Especially with a view to next year’s European Football Championship, we had the opportunity today to test our operational concept together with our partners and are optimistic about the challenges associated with EURO 2024,” the police said in a statement.
In total, over 350 people and almost 100 vehicles were searched. Various violations identified were reported. The checks lasted from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. The game started at 9 p.m. in Dortmund. The federal police had a targeted eye on the French ultra scene.
