Federal government commemorates Congolese soldiers for the first time on November 11 | Domestic

Belgium mobilized approximately 300,000 men on the German East African front during the First World War. Researchers estimate losses at 29,000 dead, including nearly 1,900 Congolese soldiers.

One of the most important battles was the Battle of Tabora, where the troops of the Congolese Armed Forces fought against troops from the German colonies. The Congolese captured Tabora in September 1916, a strategically important victory for the Allies.

The commemoration ceremony for the Battle of Tabora will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the monument on the François Rigasquare in Schaarbeek. State Secretary Leroy will lay a wreath there.
